Scope and Contents
This volume contains campaign flyers, brochures, post cards, newsletters and other ephemera related to political campaigns, events and politicians in Delaware from 1940 to 1992. These items are primarily related to Republican politics and politicians.
Delaware Republican politicians featured in this volume include: Governor Walter Bacon (Governor of Delaware from 1941-1949); Governor Russell Peterson’s 1972 reelection campaign; Senator William Roth’s 1970 U.S. Senate campaign; Senator Caleb Bogg’s 1972 re-election campaign; and an address from Republican Governor Pete du Pont delivered to a joint session of the Delaware General Assembly on March 3, 1977.
Materla related to Republican President Nixon’s 1972 reelection campaign; President Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign (also included is a birthday card to Mrs. Florence Wooleyham); and tickets/passes to various appearances of Vice President and later President George H. W. Bush in Delaware in both 1988 and 1992.
This volume also includes the Delaware Republican Party platform and list of candidates in 1954; a copy of the May 1972 state Republican party newsletter “The Trumpet”; a list of Kent County Republican candidates to local and state office in 1972; a copy of “Toward a Majority That Works: A political critique of the present administration and legislature in the state of Delaware” by the Christiana-Mill Creek Young Republican Victory Fund published in October 1976; and a photocopy of a George B. Hynson pamphlet. Hynson was the Progressive Party candidate for governor of Delaware.
