Scope and Contents
After retiring from his diplomatic career, Messersmith returned to Mexico City, where he was offered the position of Chairman of the Board of Mexican Light and Power Company, where he served successfully until his retirement in 1955. He continued to live in Mexico City intil his death in 1960.
