Scope and Contents

Reports rumors of rifts in Argentine government; [Philomeno] Velasco, Chief of Police reportedly called on Perón and threatened to withdraw his support unless certain incompetent members of the government were removed, mentioning specifically [Rolando] Lagomarsino, Minister of Commerce, and [Angel Gabriel] Borlenghi, Minister of Interior; in conversation with Perón, Perón has admitted that some members of his Cabinet are incompetent and should be changed, but he hesitates to make changes so soon after inauguration; he is being pressured too by extreme nationalists, led by [Diego Luis] Molinari, to replace Foreign Minister [Juan Atilia] Bramuglia; Perón will undoubtedly be forced to make changes, but he will probably not remove Bramuglia, though he may shift him to another ministry; Bramuglia the most competent member of Cabinet; believes Perón's position secure; even those who have been most opposed to him do not wish to see another change in government now.
