In 1992, American author John B. Sanford wrote to Noel Young of Capra Press regarding the rejection of his book, Maggie: a Memoir. In his 1994 letter, Sanford recommended the manuscript of a novel written by Laurel Speer.

John B. Sanford (1904-2003)

Poet, novelist, and historian John B. Sanford, who was born Julian Lawrence Shapiro on May 31, 1904, in New York City, legally changed his name to Sanford in 1940. A writer of fiction, history, and autobiography, Sanford's later work focused on autobiography, including the acclaimed multi-volume work Scenes from the Life of an American Jew (1985-91), of which volume one, The Color of Air, won a PEN award.

Noel Young (1922-2002)

American author and publisher Noel Young was born on December 25, 1922, in San Francisco, California. As founder of the Capra Press he published works by celebrated authors, such as Anaïs Nin, Ross Macdonald, and Kenneth Patchen. One of the highlights of Capra Press was a series of chapbooks which included work by Laurence Durrell, Henry Miller, and Ray Bradbury. Young also published his own work under the pseudonym Leon Elder.
