In this typed and signed letter to Ralph Sipper dated August 21, 2005, Evan Connell agreed to sign a copy of his book and discussed past and future publications of his books.
Connell mentioned the numerous rejections he received prior to the publication of Mrs. Bridge and he related that his longtime editor Jack Shoemaker had started his own company and was reprinting some of Connell's books.

Evan S. Connell (1924-2013)
American writer Evan S. Connell, born August 17, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, has written critically acclaimed works of both fiction and nonfiction.
Connell's biographical work, Son of the Morning Star: Custer and the Little Bighorn, was a bestseller and adapted for television in 1991. Connell's best known work of fiction is Mrs. Bridge, which together with a later novel, Mr. Bridge, was adapted as the 1990 film, Mr. and Mrs. Bridge, starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Mr. Connell has also written numerous short stories and poetry, and was the editor of the literary magazine, Contact from 1959 to 1965.
