C.P. Snow letters to Arthur Mizener

Identifier: MSS 0099-F0967

Content Description

Series of nine autograph letters signed and eight typed letters signed on various printed letterheads, with nearly all of the original mailing envelopes. The letters are from C.P. Snow to his friend, Arthur Mizener, at Cornell University, arranging to meet, discussing the publication of his works in America, mentioning his wife, her health and her reading habits, and talking about his American tour, his lectures and making relevant preparations. Additionally, the collection contains a letter from Snow's wife, novelist, poet, dramatist and critic, Pamela Hansford Johnson, to Mizener's wife Rosemary, sending news of her children's lives and travels in America, thanking her "for making [their] stay in Ithaca so enjoyable," anticipating seeing her and Arthur in England, and writing concerning her latest work. Finally, a typed, one-page publisher's announcement on printed decorated letterhead reading "News of Scribner Books and Authors," dated November 6, 1957, providing biographical and critical information about Snow and announcing both the release of his novel, The Conscience of the Rich, and his forthcoming two-month American lecture tour at colleges and universities throughout the country.
