Louis Untermeyer letters to Harlan Umansky

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 0099-F0688

Content Description

A typed and signed letter, dated May 21, 1932, accompanied by an undated authograph and signed letter on printed letterhead, with one envelope (stamp removed), written to Harlan Umansky who had requested that Untermeyer read some of his correspondent's poems. In the first letter, Untermeyer writes, "It has cost me many years of discipline and time-destroying experiments to be able to say 'no,' to your manly and modest letter [...] If at any time you care to send me a few specimens of your work with no obligation on me either to criticize or even comment on them, I will be glad to have them." In the second letter, Untermeyer acknowledges the receipt of "the three sonnets you sent" under the terms expressed in his earlier letter.
