Ezra Pound postcard written to H. L. Pound
Content Description
Autograph note written by Ezra Pound to his father, H. L. Pound on a picture postcard of Venice, dated July 23, 1908.
An important letter establishing the publication date on which finished copies were first sent out of Pound's first book. After inquiring whether his father has received a manuscript of Pavia, Pound writes: "Sent 5 proper copies by mail today (A Lume Spento) more to follow. Perhaps you'd better not use the others I sent first by friend's baggage. I explained in letter that they were not made right[...]".
Pound had contracted with A. Antonini, a Venetian printer, for an edition of 150 copies, and printing took place during June and July. The first twenty copies, completed on July 20, were trimmed incorrectly, Pound regarded them as spoiled, and sent them to William Carlos Williams to deliver to Homer Pound. Three days later the first completed copies were sent, as he writes here, to his father.
