 Collection
Identifier: MSS 0097-Item 0122

Scope and Content Note

This travel diary belonging to American foreign language instructor Clementina Dalcour documents her European travels between 1891 and 1903, including travel in Paris, Antwerp, and Brussels. Some entries, such as those written in Paris, are in French.

Dalcour documented her travels with a variety of materials, including autograph notes, musical notations, copied passages, and addresses and autographs of individuals she encountered. Her entries are punctuated with drawings of ships, people, and a crab or other marine animals. Laid in are photographs, calling cards, plant and flower parts, ribbon, news clippings, printed material, and various handwritten pages. Of note is a printed invitation stating that Dalcour was opening a studio for private instruction in Spanish and French. There is also 1919 receipt from the Foreign Committee of the Woman's Auxiliary, Pennsylvania, though it does not include Dalcour's name.

This volume has lost its leather binding but is still secure between the paper boards. There are more than two dozen laid in items Dalcour collected, including flowers, letters, notes, and a narrow, pale blue ribbon.
