Scope and Contents

An undated autograph letter written and signed by James Fenimore Cooper to Messrs. Carey, Lea and Company, saying that he is coming to Philadelphia "this week" and that he wishes "to commence printing immediately and to complete one vol. with the least possible delay." Cooper adds that he "shall probably send a few sheets of manuscript corrected tomorrow, and if they could be set in type & ready for me on Sunday, it would be clear gain...I expect to be able to say that Careys can print a volume from a bad manuscript in a week. The glory of such a thing would render you immortal."
