The Lincoln Tour

Dedicated in 1913, the Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the United States. It winds its way over 3,000 miles between New York City and San Francisco, traveling through numerous cities including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Omaha, Cheyenne, and Salt Lake City.

In 1924, Republican presidential candidate Calvin Coolidge organized The Lincoln Tour, a 56-day, cross-country road rally of 100,000 automobiles that was designed to be a continuous political parade from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The tour included rallies in towns along the route and speeches from prominent Republican politicans, advocating for Coolidge's reelection.
