Biographical / Historical

Gary Hindes is an American journalist and investment manager. In 1970, Mr. Hindes founded The Evening Standard Group, which published The Oak Forester and three other Chicago suburban weekly newspapers. From 1973 to 1975, he was associate editor and chief investigative reporter for the Delaware State News in Dover, Delaware. In 1976, Mr. Hindes transitioned to politics, serving as press secretary to the county executive of New Castle County, Delaware and then as Assistant to the Speaker of the House during the 129th Delaware General Assembly. Beginnign in late 1978, Hindes transitioned to the finance industry, working at a number of investment firms.

In 1988, Hindes ran as a Democrat for lieutenant governor of Delaware against Dale Wolf. Wolf won the election by approximately 17,000 votes. In 1989, Hindes sued both Governor Mike Castle and Lieutenant Governor Dale Wolf, and their election committees for violating Delaware racketeering laws and improperly transferring funds between the governor and lieutentant governor's campaigns. Under Delaware election law, campaigns for governor and lieutenant governor must be kept separate.
