A mimeographed typescript of Bryan MacMahon's play, "The Gap of Life." The typescript is inscribed on the title page by MacMahon: "For Jack O'Reilly, with every good wish, as ever, Bryan MacMahon. Little Christmas Day (6th January) 1972."

Bryan MacMahon (1909-1998)

Irish playwright and writer Bryan MacMahon was born in Listowel, County Kerry, in 1909. He has written numerous novels, short stories, pageants, radio features, plays and television scripts. His plays include The Bugle in the Blood (Dublin, The Abbey Theatre, 1949); The Song of the Anvil (The Abbey Theatre, 1960); The Honey Spike (The Abbey Theatre, 1961); The Master; Jack Furey; The Death of Biddy Early; The Time of the Whitethorn and The Gap of Life. He was awarded a LL.D (hon.causa) from National University of Ireland in 1972. He was President of Irish PEN, a committee member of the Academy of Irish Letters, and a member of Aosdána. Bryan MacMahon died in 1998.
