Abstract

Amiri Baraka (1934-2014), known early in his career as LeRoi Jones, was a widely published African American writer who produced poetry, drama, fiction, essays, and music criticism. Much of Baraka’s work addressed the subjects of Black liberation and white racism. The Amiri Baraka papers comprise the author’s writings, sketchbooks, and artwork, as well as correspondence and ephemera related to his involvement in theatrical and film productions.

The Charles Johnson papers consist of the letters and manuscripts written by American novelist and teacher Charles Johnson and sent to his former professor John Gardner. The seven manuscripts are drafts and outlines towards Johnson's publications, The Devil and Jubilee Tuthill, Oxherding Tale, and Faith and the Good Thing.

Abstract

Kenneth A. McClane letter to James Baldwin consists of one signed letter handwritten by McClane to James Baldwin on May 15, 1986, which accompanied a copy of his book, To Hear the River. McClane thanked Baldwin for his hospitality during a recent visit and mentioned the desire to bring Baldwin to Cornell University to teach.
