This small collection is a group of letters from Irish writer, poet, and painter George William Russell [AE] to his protégée James Stephens over a period of three years in the 1920s.

American editor and author Henry Mills Alden (1836-1919) served as editor of Harper's Magazine for 50 years from 1869 to 1919. The collection consists of 45 items dating between 1860 and 1949, with the majority comprising letters to Alden from contemporary literary figures between 1860 and 1908.

British art critic and writer Clive Bell (1881-1964) wrote several letters to American theater and pop-culture critic and writer Gilbert Vivian Seldes (1893-1970) between 1921 to 1957, detailing personal matters, mutual friends, travels, and professional events. The Paul Bowles collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, editorial matter, periodicals, ephemera, and miscellaneous material acquired from a variety of sources. The collection is added to periodically and complements the Paul Bowles papers (MSS 0163) as well as several other manuscript collections related to Paul Bowles at the University of Delaware Library.

The Paul Bowles correspondence with John Widdicombe comprises 49 letters and postcards reflecting the long-lasting friendship Bowles maintained with Widdicombe, whom Bowles met during his brief time as a student in Virginia. While on his travels, Bowles posted letters from various locations abroad, which ranged in content from news about musical and literary acquaintances, such as Aaron Copland or Gertrude Stein, to sketches of local nationals and their culture.
