Abstract

Clarice U. Heckert (1911-2005), a Republican and community activist, served as representative to the Delaware General Assembly in the 11th (1965-1968) and the 9th districts (1969-1974), in the Wilmington area, between 1964 and 1974.The Clarice U. Heckert papers document the decade-long political career of a northern Delaware woman in the Delaware General Assembly during the mid-twentieth century.

Abstract The oral history interviews in this collection were collected by the students in Dr. Roger Horowitz's HIST 268 section, "Oral History: African Americans and the University of Delaware" class, offered in the fall semesters of 2021 and 2023. Students conducted 35 interviews, with participants drawn from two principal communities: African American alumni of the University of Delaware and residents of the Newark, Delaware's New London Road/Cleveland Avenue neighborhood.
