This journal belonged to Mary A. H. Hoskins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and contains accounts of her domestic life during the year 1857. These two volumes were created by Philadelphia-area physicians Jacob H. Wehner and William H. Wehner between 1867 and 1868. J. C. Welsh’s manuscript journal comprises 120 pages, written in ink, on four sewn but unbound signatures. His journal reports on the physical and cultural challenges of traveling from Boston, Massachusetts, to British Guyana and living there while pursuing legal business in 1817 through 1819.

These three manuscripts are volumes of a journal kept by Mary Avery White (1778-1860) of Boylston, Massachusetts. White wrote extensively about life in rural Massachusetts, including observations on the weather, notes about daily work and social visits, meditations on religion, and information about her involvement in various reform activities, including abolitionism and the temperance movement.

Nobel Prize-winning chemist Charles J. Pedersen’s “Wine Book” is a seventy-two page volume with fifty-eight pages filled. This log book records the results of wine tasting. There are columns describing 368 bottles of wine, individuals who sampled them, the food with which they were served, and the quality.
