Hugh MacDiarmid (1892-1978)
Scottish poet, editor, and political activist Hugh MacDiarmid was born Christopher Murray Grieve on August 11, 1892, in Langholm, Scotland. MacDiarmid founded the Scottish center of PEN in 1927, and was a key figure in the Scottish Literary Renaissance, prior to his death on September 9, 1978.
