Scope and Contents

Cornelius Alfred Tilghman, Sr. (1902-1998), University of Delaware Class of 1925, was a journalist and editor. He was the former editor of The Review (the University of Delaware’s student paper) and worked in the newsrooms of four Wilmington papers and the Newark Post. He taught English Literature at Geneva College in Pennsylvania and was the University of Delaware’s first Rhodes Scholar. This collection includes photocopied clippings of newspaper articles on the Delaware Canal, Tilghman’s research notes on Sir John Suckling, copies of portraits of Suckling, correspondence, transcriptions of letters by George Gerrard, and Tilghman’s research notes on James I.
