MSS 0099. Miscellaneous Literary & Historical Manuscripts

The Gloria Frym publicity materials and typescripts comprise seven poetry typescripts by award-winning American poet, lecturer, and writer Gloria Frym (1947-), as well as publicity material relating to her receipt of the San Francisco State University Poetry Center's 1982 Book Award for Back to Forth. These items were originally laid into American poet Tom Clark's (1941-) copy of Back to Forth, which was inscribed to him by Frym.

This collection comprises a single, illustrated autograph letter signed from Irish caricaturist and illustrator Harry Furniss (1854-1925) to literary hostess Lady St. Helier.

American essayist and novelist William H. Gass wrote to Jonathan Carroll to accept an invitation to visit Carroll's English class at St. Louis Country Day School in St. Louis, Missouri.

Amy Gerstler (1956-) is an American poet and writer who won the National Book Critics Circle Award for her volume of poetry, Bitter Angel in 1991. Gerstler sent two postcards and a letter to American poet Tom Clark (1941-) between 1982 and 1988 in which she provided news, sought his advice on professional matters, and asked after his family.

This small collection contains fourteen letters from English author Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) to literary figures, agents, and book collectors, as well as members of high society, reflecting Gosse's close relationship to all aspects of the literary industry. The letters covered a spectrum of topics, including the history of literary circles, historical figures, current literature by himself and others, as well as the movements and travels of people in his social circle.
